Finally...I can do the meme

I'm probably the last person on the face of the earth to do this meme. I got it about a year ago, from comments on this blog, but I didn't own an iPod. I got one a while back and finally put songs on it. So... here's the meme and my answers.

Put your iPod onto shuffle mode and list the first ten songs that play. List them here along with why you like those songs (or don't like them, but then they shouldn't be on your iPod).

1. Nearer My God to Thee - Violin Arrangement by the New York Philharmonic --It must be a sign from an all-mighty creator that a hymn come up first on my iPod list. LOL. Not. I just love the melody. When they bust out with this ditty in Titanic, I lose it and become a babbling mess.
2. Cowboy - Kid Rock
3. I Want You Back - Jackson 5 -- I loathe Michael Jackson, but I love the peppy groove of this song.
4. Nessum Dorma, Pavorati - How can anyone NOT have some Pavorati on their iPod? Give opera a try. I recommend it. This tune is cheesy and a pretty common track, but it'll get you in to the music.
5. Motownphilly, Boys II Men -- Um. Damn. How did that get on there? *looks around with a guilty face*
6. You Can Do It - Ice Cube -- Ok. That gives me some of my "cool points" back, right?
7. Never Saw Blue Like That, Shawn Colvin
8. Paint it Black - Rolling Stones -- Aw yeah. I was singing this song the whole time I was painting P1's door last week. Her door wasn't red to begin with, but there wasn't enough Clorox available to man to get this one out of my head.
9. Mickey, Tony Basil --There go the cool points.
10. Punjabyan Di Shaan - Hansraj Shan --Relics of my Bollywood phase.

I'm going to go crawl under a rock now.

Hmm Pavorati? Is it the poor man's Pavarotti?

Yes. All the tenor with less "t". ;) Good catch. My meds have me a bit spacey right now.

I tend to play my iPod on album shuffle, rather than song. But anyway, people walking by my desk at work often stop and ask "what are you listening to NOW?" My music ranges from early religious to country to rock to Irish folk music to...well, whatever. I think I have all the songs holiwud517 listed on my iPod. No Pavarotti tho...can't find my Three Tenors CD! I'm still looking for it.

aww, c'mon! It wasn't like you had Dexy and the Midnight Runners or anything. Plus Basil's video had those cute chubby cheerleaders ;)

1. New Abortion - Slipknot
2. Remember Now - Queensryche
3. Just Stop - Disturbed
4. Defy You - The Offspring
5. Mantra - Tool
6. Message To Harry Manback - Tool
7. Dam That River - Alice In Chains
8. Duality - Slipknot
9. Cesaro Summability - Tool
10. Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter - Iron Maiden

Some stuff seems over-represented. Tool especially, but that's probably because I did this on my iPhone, which has only a small subset of my music collection, and Tool is one of only two artists who's entire collection I have on the phone. It didn't pick anything from the lighter fare I have on there either. Granted, I do have all rock/metal on here, but it seemed to pick an especially heavy subset.

Wow, I never appreciated what a strange music collection I've got. Straight from Metallica to Bob Dylan? Fun.

2. Sigur Ros, "Olsen olsen"
3. Suffocation, "The invoking"
4. Bruce Dickinson, "1000 points of light"
5. Tchaikovsky, "Swan lake"
6. Black Sabbath, "War pigs"
7. Acid Bath, "New death sensation"
8. The Who, "Young man blues"

Note to self: no long road trips with Possummomma. ;)

That being said, here's mine:

1. Uncle Walter - Ben Folds Five
2. The Last Stop - Dave Matthews Band
3. Crash & Burn - Blues Traveler
4. Trouble With Carla - Peter McConnell (from the video game Grim Fandango. Hey, don't knock it until you hear it!
5. Linger - The Cranberries. Ok. I'm a little embarrassed now.
6. Ceremony - New Order
7. Mandlebrot Set - Jonathan Coulton (AWESOME!)
8. Only a Lad - Oingo Boingo
9. The Quiet Song - By me. No really. Wrote it for my kid. I realize that having it on my MP3 player is a little narcissistic.
10. When You Sleep - Cake

Well, that could have been worse. :)

1: Was Ist Das - Stahlhammer ( I love German metal)
2: Sag Dem Teufel - Subway to Sally (especially when they have traditional accoustic instruments mixed in)
3: The Landing - Final Fantasy VIII Soundtrack (Oh man, this one is great. Amazing orchestral song that goes with a great cutscene, starting with a reflection of the moon in the sea which is then disrupted by several assault landers crossing it, leading into an amphibious assault on a town to liberate it)
4: Away - Nightwish (Opera singer + metal band = WIN)
5: Gethsemane - Nightwish
6: Supermodel or Redneck - Jeff Foxworthy, Blue Collar Comedy Tour One for the Road
7: Now That's Rock 'N Roll - Powerman 5000 (Destroy What You Enjoy is a great album - I don't care if anyone disagrees. Miss America and Walking Disaster are great songs)
8: Running - No Doubt (They're a great singles band, which is why how bad Gwen Stefani's solo work is is so annoying to me)
9: Neva Ceng I Harbe - In Extremo (take the fist two, and make it a German metal band doing a pure acoustic album based on their interpretation of folk music, and it's still awesome)
10: Follow (1st Movement of the Odyssey) - Halo 2 Soundtrack (The in-game stuff is amazing, and the modified tracks on the cd are even better.)

I'll admit I used my iTunes library, but it's basically the same, considering my iPod's dead and out in the car. And took me forever because I love these songs...

Ah! I love this meme!! I'm gonna have to borrow it for my own blog. Will give credit, tho, P-momma.

1. Physiology - The Terribly Empty Pockets

2. Your Arms Around Me - Jens Lekman

3. Master Teacher - Erykah Badu

4. Only Bones That Show - Baby Dee

5. Ramallah - Muslimgauze

7. Ghost Hardware - Burial

8. Yes! I am a Long Way from Home - Mogwai

OK - so there are relics from my 'goth' days, and some critics darlings in there. I'm a (faux) music snob - what can I say?

I normally just listen to podcasts and they don't shuffle.
There is some music on my Ipod - a huge list of christmas music because I had a holiday party and set the ipod on speakers and shuffle for background music.
Then I have Graydon Square's "the Compton Effect" which my wife gave me for Christmas. Gotta love atheist rap, especially when he raps about Pascal's Wager.

Sorry, you aren't' the last person on earth to do this meme! I haven't got an iPod, have no plans to get one and as far as I can remember I have never even seen one.

I have always been very fond of Nessum Dorma. It was was chosen as the theme for the 1990 World Cup (held in Italy) and as a result countless people were tempted to listen to be more open to the idea of listening to opera.

Between me and Princess, we have an artist list that goes from ABBA to Rob Zombie. I'm a bit more selective than her, although my tastes are still eclectic.

(FYI, I posted my list on my blog.)

I have nothing to say to this post except: LOL OMG!

But before I make too many smart ass comments, I should do my own playlist, which will probably be one hundred times more embarassing than yours, so here goes:

1. Hey Baby - No Doubt
I really like No Doubt, their music tends to be very energetic.

2. Hollaback Girl - Gwen Stefani
This is just embarassing, but I like the song. It's weird that I only have a few of Gwen/ND's songs, but they're the first ones to come up.

3. Starry Eyed Surprise - Paul Oakenfold
This song mellows me out, it has a great beat.

4. Say You'll Be There (Live at the MTV VMAs) - Spice Girls
Love the Spice Girls :)

5. Boom Boom Ba - Metisse feat. Terminalhead
Such a great song, very relaxing and mysterious sounding. It's sung in English and Agni. Ewan's middle name (Kamele) comes from a lyric in this song.

6. 2 Become 1 - Spice Girls
I have the musical tastes of a 12 year old, what can I say?? :)

7. Kyrie - Mister Mister
Mary downloaded this and it somehow wound up on my iPod. I don't think I was even born when this song came out, heh.

8. Englishman in New York - Sting
Love Sting, love this song. It's about culture clash!

9. No Trix No Games - Victoria Beckham
See above explaination about musical tastes :D It's a very sexy song, sung by a very sexy lady, i.e. a win-win ;)

10. Love Love Love - Tristan Prettyman
Such a happy song, it always makes me smile. The singer has such a crisp voice, too, she sounds great

I don't have an Ipod, but I took all the music I have on my harddrive and put winamp on shuffle.

1. Drink it up men - The Dubliners
2. We're not gonna take it - Twisted Sister
3. Road - Don Johnson Big Band
4. One Night Stand - The Pipettes
5. Umbrella - Rihanna feat. Jay-Z
6. Nothing Else Matters - Metallica
7. Get up, Stand up - Bob Marley & The Wailers
8. Night and Day - Ray Charles
9. Ready For Love - Bad Company
10. In Trance (live) - Scorpions

That was interesting.
