Shaved Ice

You guys said you didn't mind pics...you might regret that. :)
We have a tradition of starting and ending the summer with shaved ice. We only get it twice a year. And, we always wait for darkness to fall before eating it outside on the driveway (I learned that Blue Raspberry stains carpets).

So...I invite you to pull up a chair and enjoy the Possum Family's "End of Summer" evening. If you click on the slideshow and watch it at picasa, you'll get the captions.

Is this the East coast shaved ice (a.k.a. Italian ice), or the regular shaved ice?

Our tradition is to have Italian ice when we visit the East Coast (mid-Atlantic region) and gelato when we visit the West Coast (Vancouver, specifically). Yummmm

Your kids are just too darned cute! Loved the gusto with which the littlest Possum polished off the ice.

Hawaiian. It's literally just shaved ice with some high fructose corn syrup and extremely bad for you dyes on top. ;) We normally curtail the junk food (hence, the "twice a summer" rule). But...you have to have some fun.

Do you know that I've never had gelato? I should look into trying some. :) Thanks for the idea.

Thank you. :) And, I was waiting for him to experience brain freeze. LOL He tipped that cup back and chugged it.

Did he eventually get brain freeze? What a kid!

Try hitting a gelato place with 200+ flavors...it's mind boggling. But don't ever try durian flavor (or durians period)! Even Andrew Zimmern (of Bizarre Foods) couldn't stomach it and he will eat grubs. :P

Try gelato. My childling #2 turned me onto grapefruit gelato this summer...it is wonderful. I won't let anyone buy any to bring home or I will gain 100 lbs overnight.

The possums are too cute. You have a fabulous family.
